survival float
Facedown water rest
A survival float is a technique for staying afloat in water with minimal energy expenditure.
The swimmer relaxes face-down with arms and legs dangling, lifting the head only briefly to breathe, then returning to the resting position.
It's taught as an emergency skill for conserving strength when rescue may be delayed: They practiced the survival float in swim class.
