summit meetings
Top-level diplomatic gatherings
Summit meetings are high-level diplomatic gatherings between heads of state or government leaders, typically to discuss matters of international importance.
The term evokes the image of leaders ascending to meet at the peak: The Cold War summit meetings between American and Soviet leaders drew global attention.
By extension, any meeting between top executives or officials may be called a summit.
