communication blackout
Total signal loss
A communication blackout is a period when normal channels of information are unavailable or deliberately silenced.
It may be technical—The storm caused a communication blackout across the region—or imposed: governments enforce blackouts during military operations or civil unrest.
Spacecraft experience blackouts during atmospheric reentry when heat disrupts radio signals.
The term also describes voluntary disconnection: I'm going on a communication blackout this weekend.
