SALT talks
Nuclear arms diplomacy
SALT talks refers to the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks, a series of negotiations between the United States and Soviet Union during the Cold War aimed at limiting nuclear weapons.
SALT I (1972) and SALT II (1979) produced treaties capping missile arsenals.
The term now evokes Cold War diplomacy and arms control efforts: The current negotiations recall the SALT talks of the 1970s.
