suicidal behavior
Actions risking one's life
Suicidal behavior encompasses actions that indicate a person may be considering, planning, or attempting to end their own life.
This includes direct suicide attempts as well as preparatory acts like giving away possessions, withdrawing from relationships, or acquiring means to cause self-harm.
The term is used clinically to distinguish between passive ideation (wishing to be dead) and active behavior that moves toward self-destruction.
The counselor was trained to recognize warning signs of suicidal behavior.
