sublessees
Tenants of tenants
Sublessees are tenants who rent from another tenant rather than directly from the property owner.
When a primary tenant subleases their apartment or office space, the person who moves in becomes the sublessee: The sublessees paid rent to the original tenant, who remained responsible to the landlord.
