breed standard
Official dog specifications
A breed standard is the official description of an ideal specimen of a particular dog, cat, or other animal breed—covering physical traits, temperament, and movement.
Kennel clubs and breed associations establish these standards, and judges at shows evaluate animals against them: The dog was disqualified for not meeting the breed standard.
Breeders use the standard as a guide for selecting breeding pairs.
