stubbing

Hitting furniture painfully

Stubbing is the act of striking something, usually a toe, against a hard object: I keep stubbing my toe on that damn coffee table.

In programming, stubbing means creating a placeholder function or component that returns minimal or fake data, allowing development to proceed before the real implementation exists: We're stubbing the API responses until the backend is ready.
