straw bales
Dried grass blocks
Straw bales are compressed rectangular blocks of dried grain stalks, bound with twine or wire.
They're used as animal bedding, garden mulch, erosion control, and increasingly as building material for insulated walls.
We stacked straw bales around the foundation for winter insulation.
Not to be confused with hay bales, which contain dried grasses or legumes used as animal feed.
