stewardess

Airline cabin worker

A stewardess is a woman who serves passengers on an airplane or ship.

The term was standard for female flight attendants through most of the 20th century but has largely been replaced by the gender-neutral *flight attendant*.

Stewardess now sounds dated or quaint: My grandmother was a stewardess for Pan Am in the 1960s.
