state farms
Government-owned agricultural operations
State farms are agricultural operations owned and run by a government rather than private individuals.
The term most commonly refers to the large collective farms established in the Soviet Union and other communist countries during the twentieth century: Workers on state farms received wages rather than sharing profits.
The concept contrasts with collective farms, where workers theoretically managed operations themselves.
