sonarmen
Submarine ear crew
Sonarmen is the plural of sonarman—a naval technician who operates sonar equipment to detect submarines, underwater obstacles, and other submerged objects.
The term belongs to traditional military occupational titles: The sonarmen tracked the submarine for six hours.
Like many such titles, it's increasingly replaced by gender-neutral alternatives.
