leach field
Wastewater absorption area
A leach field is the underground drainage area of a septic system, where wastewater disperses into the soil through perforated pipes laid in gravel trenches.
The soil filters and breaks down contaminants before they reach groundwater.
Also called a drain field or leach bed.
The inspector found the leach field was failing.
