snowhole
Dug snow refuge
A snowhole is a shelter dug into deep snow or a snowbank, used for emergency protection or planned overnight stays in winter conditions.
The surrounding snow provides insulation, making the interior surprisingly warm compared to outside temperatures.
We dug a snowhole to wait out the blizzard.
Also called a snow cave.
