slime mould

Brainless problem solver

Slime mould (also slime mold) is a peculiar organism that exists as single cells but can aggregate into a larger mass that moves and behaves almost like a single creature.

Neither plant nor animal nor true fungus, slime moulds feed on bacteria and decaying matter, creeping slowly across forest floors and rotting logs.

Despite having no brain, they can solve simple mazes and find efficient paths between food sources, making them subjects of scientific fascination.
