plasmodium
Fused cellular blob
A plasmodium is a mass of protoplasm containing multiple nuclei, formed when single-celled organisms merge or divide without separating.
This slimy, creeping structure is characteristic of slime molds, which move and feed as a single unified blob before producing spores.
The plasmodium oozed across the rotting log. (Capitalized Plasmodium is the malaria parasite genus.)
