signboards
Displayed business names
Signboards are boards displaying signs, typically mounted publicly to convey information, advertisements, or directions.
They range from simple hand-painted notices outside shops to elaborate illuminated displays along highways.
The term is somewhat old-fashioned in American English, where sign alone usually suffices, but remains current in British English and in formal or legal contexts.
The village signboard marked the entrance to the historic district.
