falconet

Small tropical raptor

A falconet is a small falcon, especially any of several species native to Asia and Africa that are among the smallest birds of prey.

The term also refers to a type of light cannon used from the 15th through 17th centuries, small enough to be mounted on a swivel and typically firing shots of about one to two pounds.

The Philippine falconet is barely larger than a sparrow.
