shorting
Circuit path failure
Shorting is causing an electrical short circuit, whether accidental or deliberate: The faulty wiring kept shorting the system.
In finance, shorting means selling borrowed securities with the intention of buying them back later at a lower price—betting that the price will fall: Hedge funds were shorting the stock heavily.
Both senses involve bypassing the normal path or process.
