overgiving

Giving beyond capacity

Overgiving is giving more than is healthy, sustainable, or appropriate—often to one's own detriment.

The term appears in self-help and psychology contexts to describe a pattern where someone habitually sacrifices their own needs, time, or resources for others: Her overgiving left her exhausted and resentful.

Unlike generosity, overgiving implies imbalance—giving that stems from people-pleasing, guilt, or poor boundaries rather than genuine abundance.
