making whole

Restoring to completeness

Making whole is restoring someone or something to a complete or undamaged state.

In legal and insurance contexts, it means compensating an injured party so they're in the same position as before the harm: The settlement aimed at making the plaintiff whole.

The phrase can also describe emotional or spiritual restoration: Years of therapy went into making her whole again.
