shortcodes

Brief text triggers

Shortcodes are brief alphanumeric codes that trigger specific functions or content.

In text messaging, shortcodes are five- or six-digit numbers used for automated services: Text STOP to 12345 to unsubscribe.

In web publishing platforms like WordPress, shortcodes are bracketed tags that insert predefined content or features: [gallery id="5"].

The term also applies to abbreviated dialing codes on phones.
