shooting match
Rifle range event
A shooting match is a marksmanship competition where participants fire at targets.
The phrase appears most often in the whole shooting match, meaning the entire affair or everything involved: They sold the whole shooting match—house, furniture, cars, everything.
This idiom treats an event as comparable to a full competitive shooting program with all its rounds and contestants.
