ship propeller

Vessel's spinning blades

A ship propeller is the rotating blade assembly that drives a vessel through water.

The angled blades spin on a shaft connected to the engine, pushing water backward to create forward thrust.

Most modern ships use propellers with three to six blades: The ship's propeller churned the water into white foam.

Also called a screw or ship's screw.
