ship log
Captain's daily journal
A ship log is an official record of a vessel's voyage—its position, speed, weather conditions, and notable events.
The captain or officers make entries at regular intervals.
The term comes from the original method of measuring speed: a wooden log thrown overboard attached to a knotted line.
The ship log recorded their position at noon each day.
