mayday call
Emergency radio plea
A mayday call is an emergency radio distress signal indicating imminent danger to a ship, aircraft, or person.
The word mayday comes from French *m'aider* (help me) and is repeated three times when broadcast: Mayday, mayday, mayday—we're going down.
It represents the most urgent level of distress, requiring immediate response from anyone receiving it.
