sharkskin

Glossy suit material

Sharkskin refers to two quite different textured materials.

The first is actual shark leather, prized for its distinctive rough texture created by tiny tooth-like scales called denticles; it's used for luxury goods and was historically used as sandpaper.

The second is a smooth, tightly woven fabric with a subtle sheen, typically made from wool or synthetic fibers, popular for suits and formalwear.

He wore a sleek gray sharkskin suit to the interview.
