great white
Ocean's apex predator
A great white is the great white shark, largest of the predatory sharks and the species responsible for most fatal attacks on humans.
The name comes from its pale underside.
In surfing and beach culture, great whites loom large in the imagination: They spotted a great white just beyond the break.
The term sometimes appears as shorthand for apex predators generally. (Capitalized Great White was an American rock band.)
