shark attack
Predatory fish bite
A shark attack is an incident in which a shark bites a human, ranging from minor injuries to fatal maulings.
The term applies whether the shark was hunting, defending territory, or investigating out of curiosity—most attacks are not predatory.
Despite their notoriety, shark attacks are statistically rare: There were fewer than a hundred shark attacks worldwide last year.
