semicircular canal
Inner ear passage
One of three fluid-filled tubes in the inner ear that detect rotational movement of the head.
Arranged at right angles to each other, the semicircular canals sense motion in three dimensions and send signals to the brain for balance.
Damage or dysfunction causes vertigo and dizziness.
