search query
What you type
A search query is the word or phrase someone types into a search engine or database to find information.
The term distinguishes what the user enters from the results returned: Her search query was "best hiking boots," but the results were mostly ads.
In technical contexts, query alone often suffices, but search query emphasizes the act of seeking rather than database operations generally.
