seaquake
Underwater tectonic shift
A seaquake is an earthquake occurring beneath the ocean floor.
Ships passing over the epicenter may feel violent shuddering as shock waves travel through the water: The captain reported a seaquake that rattled the hull.
Seaquakes can trigger tsunamis when they displace large volumes of water.
