scrod
Immature Atlantic catch
Scrod is young cod or haddock, especially as prepared for cooking.
The term appears mainly on New England menus, where baked scrod is a regional specialty.
The word may also refer to any young whitefish suitable for broiling or baking.
Some restaurants use scrod loosely for whatever fresh catch is available.
