scallion

Mild salad onion

A scallion is a young onion harvested before the bulb fully develops, with a white base and long green leaves.

Both parts are edible, used raw in salads or cooked in stir-fries and soups.

The term is interchangeable with green onion in American English: Chop the scallions and sprinkle them on top.
