satellite navigation system
Orbital positioning technology
A satellite navigation system is a network of orbiting satellites that transmits signals allowing receivers on Earth to determine their precise location.
GPS is the most familiar example, though several countries operate their own systems.
The technology enables turn-by-turn driving directions, aircraft guidance, and location tracking on smartphones and other devices.
