four-poster beds
Columned sleeping furniture
Four-poster beds is the plural of four-poster bed, a bed frame with four tall posts at the corners, traditionally supporting a canopy or curtains.
The design dates to the Renaissance, when bed curtains provided warmth and privacy.
Today four-poster beds are largely decorative, evoking elegance or romance: The honeymoon suite featured a mahogany four-poster bed.
