same-gender-loving
Queer, Afrocentric terminology
Same-gender-loving describes romantic or sexual attraction to people of the same gender, used especially in Black communities as an alternative to gay or lesbian.
The term emerged in the 1990s as a culturally affirming identity that doesn't carry the historical associations some feel with mainstream LGBTQ terminology: a same-gender-loving Black man, the same-gender-loving community.
