Mineral harvest grounds
Saltpans are shallow basins where seawater or brine evaporates to leave salt deposits.
They can be natural depressions in coastal or desert regions, or artificial pools used for commercial salt production.
The word also refers to the dried, salt-crusted flats that remain: The flamingos gathered on the saltpans at dawn.
