saltie

Estuarine apex predator

A saltie is a saltwater crocodile, the largest living reptile, found in coastal regions from India through Southeast Asia to northern Australia.

The term is mainly Australian: We spotted a massive saltie sunning on the riverbank.

Salties are notoriously aggressive and dangerous to humans.

The word distinguishes them from freshwater crocodiles (freshies).
