Chewy seaside confection
Salt water taffy is a soft, chewy candy made by repeatedly pulling and stretching a sugar mixture until it becomes porous and light.
Despite the name, it contains little or no actual seawater—the name comes from its association with seaside resorts, particularly Atlantic City.
The candy is sold in colorful wrapped pieces in assorted flavors: We always bring back salt water taffy from the boardwalk.
