roughrider
Wild horse tamer
A roughrider is a skilled horseman who breaks and trains wild horses, or more broadly, someone who rides with daring and rough technique rather than polish.
The term gained fame through Theodore Roosevelt's Rough Riders, volunteer cavalry who fought in the Spanish-American War: He fancied himself a roughrider, though he'd barely been on a horse.
