robodog

Mechanical pet companion

A robodog is a four-legged robot designed to move like a dog, typically used for surveillance, inspection, or military applications.

Boston Dynamics' Spot is the most recognizable example.

The term can also refer to robotic toy dogs or, in science fiction, mechanical canine companions: The security team deployed a robodog to patrol the perimeter.
