ridge lift
Wind climbs hillside
Ridge lift is the upward air current that forms when wind strikes a cliff, hill, or mountain and is deflected upward along the slope.
Glider pilots and soaring birds use ridge lift to gain or maintain altitude without engine power, flying back and forth along the windward face: The hawk rode the ridge lift effortlessly.
Also called slope lift.
