resegregate

Divide once more

Resegregate means to segregate again—to separate by race, class, or category after a period of integration.

The term appears most often in discussions of schools and neighborhoods that had achieved some integration but reverted to separation: Many urban schools have resegregated since the 1990s.

The prefix *re-* emphasizes that this is a return to a prior divided state.
