resegregation
Dividing again racially
Resegregation is the return to racial or demographic separation after a period of integration, typically in schools, housing, or public institutions.
The term emerged prominently in discussions of American education, where court-ordered desegregation programs were dismantled or circumvented, leading neighborhoods and schools to become racially homogeneous again.
Critics argue that the resegregation of urban schools has accelerated since the 1990s.
The process may occur through explicit policy changes or through demographic shifts like white flight.
