remilitarization
Restoring military capability
Remilitarization is the process of rebuilding military forces or reestablishing a military presence in a region where it had been reduced or prohibited.
The term is most associated with Nazi Germany's 1936 reoccupation of the Rhineland, which violated the Treaty of Versailles: Hitler's remilitarization of the Rhineland met no resistance from France or Britain.
More broadly, it describes any return to military buildup after a period of demilitarization.
