rem
Root font measure
Rem is a unit of radiation dosage measuring the biological effect of ionizing radiation on human tissue.
The name comes from "roentgen equivalent man." Though largely replaced by the sievert in scientific contexts, rem remains common in American regulatory and medical settings: The technician's annual exposure was well under the five-rem limit. (Capitalized REM is rapid eye movement sleep.)
