non-REM sleep
Deep restorative rest
Non-REM sleep is the phase of sleep that excludes rapid eye movement, accounting for roughly three-quarters of a typical night's rest.
It progresses through stages of increasing depth, from light drowsiness to deep, restorative sleep when the body repairs tissues and consolidates memory.
During non-REM sleep, brain waves slow considerably, breathing and heart rate become regular, and dreaming is minimal or absent.
The patient showed reduced time in non-REM sleep during the study.
