redemption arcs
Villain becomes hero
A redemption arc is the narrative trajectory of a character who begins as morally compromised—a villain, a coward, a failure—and gradually earns moral recovery through suffering, sacrifice, or changed behavior.
The term comes from fiction but applies readily to real people: Everyone loves a good redemption arc, His comeback season was a complete redemption arc.
The arc implies a shape—the character falls, struggles, and rises.
