recessives
Masked genetic variants
Recessives are genetic traits that only manifest when inherited from both parents.
In genetics, a recessive gene is masked by a dominant one—blue eyes are recessive, so a child needs the blue-eye gene from both parents to have blue eyes.
The term extends loosely to anything latent or subordinate: The recessives in his personality emerged under stress.
